NJ Workshop for the Arts

The Music Connection, an instrumental music program for special needs families, is currently interviewing and placing students in this innovative program. Potential candidates, ages 6 and older with neurological, developmental and/ or physical handicaps, will be interviewed and evaluated for admission to study violin, viola, cello, trumpet, piano, clarinet or snare drum with individual family or small group lessons. Vocal lessons are also available. Students must have a Music Partner who will attend all lessons and assist their child when practicing. This year the program will include our foundation in Music Therapy. Prior to regular lessons, a certified music therapist will guide students in developing the skills necessary to succeed in a private instrumental and vocal session. Upon completion of this phase, students will be assisted in choosing vocal lessons or an instrument to study privately, or in a small group setting, with an NJWA faculty member. Phase I (8 weeks) is our Music Therapy foundation program. Phase 2 (8 weeks) is the vocal music or instrumental music study. Phase 3 involves students performing in various ensembles. Schedule: Classes are ongoing – call for availability. Tuition: Phase 1: Music Therapy is tuition–free. Therapy sessions may be given individually for 30 minutes or in a group for 45 minutes, depending upon individual scheduling needs. Phase 2: Music Lessons are offered at a reduced rate. Both phases are funded by donations through grants, individual and corporate sponsorship and attendance at fundraising events. Times: Various times are available, daily and on weekends.

NJ Workshop for the Arts

Our son started taking music lessons at the NJ Workshop for the Arts at age 6. He began with Music Connection, a program designed especially for children with special needs, where the child learns to play an instrument with a parent partner. Dr. Schlosberg, founder of the workshop is a fantastic teacher and our son thrived with this program.
